NextGen TV Launch in Cleveland Brings Service to All Top 25 U.S. Markets

Last week, NextGen TV reached another major milestone with its launch in Cleveland, Ohio. The deployment means all 25 of the nation’s largest television markets now have NextGen TV service, underscoring the broadcast industry’s continued commitment to investing in the future of free, local television.

NextGen TV, also known as ATSC 3.0, offers 4K ultra high-definition video quality, theater-like sound, mobile reception and innovative new features to enhance and expand the broadcast viewing experience.

“Completing this ATSC 3.0 transition represents a significant milestone in the nationwide transformation of broadcast capabilities and is the first step to bringing a host of benefits to consumers in the Cleveland DMA,” said Brett Jenkins, chief technology and digital officer, Nexstar.

Because the new technology combines the best features of broadcast television and broadband, NextGen TV allows local stations to better personalize their broadcasts with interactive features so viewers can get the content most relevant to them. In addition, the ATSC 3.0 standard powers the Broadcast Positioning System, a resilient, complementary backup to GPS that can strengthen our nation’s infrastructure and boost national security.

At a time when more content is moving behind paywalls and onto Big Tech platforms, NextGen TV helps ensure local broadcasters can continue serving every community, free and over the air, including enhancing access to marquee live sports and other major local events that bring communities together.

Now, policymakers must match that momentum by modernizing outdated regulations and establishing a clear, forward-looking transition plan so broadcasters can continue delivering innovative, free local television for their communities. Learn more at NextGen TV.
